Catharsis

We experience many kinds of emotions during our lives. We feel joy and sorrow, we feel fear and happiness. Emotions are born in us at every moment of our lives, we experience them, and then they are gone. But sometimes we don’t truly feel them. We repress those feelings. We hide and ingore them.

Certain emotions and feelings can be just too unpleasant or painful to us. Or maybe they do not fit into current situation, or into our self-image. In that case, we might unconsiously repress them, and refuse to acknowledge them. We might deny even their existence. However, these emotions do not just disappear.

They remain within our hearts. They are stored into our body, into our being. They lessen our ability to feel or experience anything new. They take up lot of our energy, which is needed to constantly hide and repress them. Slowly our hearts will fill up, and then there won’t be any room for new feelings and experiences. And finally those repressed emotions will form an impenetrable wall, and we lose our ability to feel anything at all. We will become depressed, and we lose meaning of our lives.

Catharsis is a way to open all those emotions again, and experience them properly. Catharsis means the cleansing of emotions. There many methods that can be used to open up locked emotions. All these will bring hidden and repressed emotions back to the surface again. Only way to be free of these emotions is to experience all of them again. Other means can work only temporarily; in the end you will have to face those feelings.

It is always better to do it yourself, by your own will. Face your own feelings with courage and open heart. Remember that all of them are your own feelings, and none of them will be able to hurt you. They will just come and go away again. Emotions that are fully experienced will leave you, and you can finally be free of them. You can live and feel again. You will find again your innocence, and the beauty of this world.

Laughter and tears

Release your laughter and tears

Begin with laugher and tears. They are basic expressions of our emotions, feelings of joy and sorrow. We cry when we are sad, and we laugh when we are happy. Joy and sorrow are two natural emotions we experience every day. When you can laugh and cry freely, your life will be much lighter and easier. Crying takes away your tears, and laughter releases your joy.

Release your joy

Begin with laughter. Find yourself a place where you will not be disrupted. Take a comfortable position, and start laughing. At first your laugher will be just an acting. When you keep laughing, your body will react to it, and soon you will be laughing for real. Laughing does not need any reason. Laugh freely without any reason, and let out all hidden and repressed joy.

Laugh at least half an hour. After that, stay quiet, and feel your emotions. Do this everyday for a week, three times a day, and your laugher will become open and natural. You will soon feel lighter and more joyful. Laughter will help you to redioscover your joy and fun of living once again.

This practice can be done every day in your life. Laugh 15 minutes every day, and you will find much more joy and fun in your life. Joy does not need any particular reason. Just laughing is enough. You can choose joy, and laughter, and laugh freely whenever you want to.

Release your sorrow

When you have found your laughter again, finding your tears will be easier. Start crying as you did with laughing. Begin to cry without any reason. You will find your sorrow again, and start crying for real. Let all tears come out. Let all sorrow, pain and anger flow out with your tears. Feel the cleansing and healing power of tears. Tears will wash away all your sorrows.

You can do this everyday, too. You can cry without any reason. Tears are also good to us. It is a natural expression of our bodies. Keep your emotions open and flowing by crying and laughing. Both laughter as well as tears cleanse and heal us. They are both natural healing powers of our bodies.

Catharsis of dance

Release limits of your body

Dancing is a way to express and feel all those emotions that cannot be expressed by any other way. It is a way to feel in your body all your sorrows and wounds that cannot be said by words. Our body has its own wordless language; it is the language of dance. Our repressed emotions are often stored into our body as stiffness and hardness. Release them again by natural movements of your body.

Begin this practice with trembling. Stand on your ground, and tremble. Shake your body with all your might. This opens up stiffness and breaks all limits in your body. When your body opens up, and you feel something, begin to dance. Dance with all your heart. Express your wordless pain by the language of body. Express all your feelings in your dance.

Dance all your emotions, move your body exactly as you feel. Even if it weird or funny. Dance the dance of feelings. Dance every feeling, and experience all of them with your body. Dance to the point of exhaustion. Then lie down quietly, and feel your emotions. Feel how your feeling move and shift inside of your. Your heart is beginning to live once more.

Primal shout

Release expression of your voice

Voice is one of our basic ways to express our feelings. All human emotions can be expressed by the voice. Emotions can be released by shouting. Shout that comes from the depths of our being can release years of repressed feelings. Primal shout is a way to let all our emotions out at once.

Find yourself a place where nobody will hear you. Begin shouting gently. Let your voice come out naturally and easily.  When you feel your voice relax, begin to express your feelings. Shout from the bottom of your soul. Shout out all our pain and anger, let out all repressed feelings.

Shout out with all your might, and let voice come out from deep within you. Feel the vibrations of voice in your body, and feel how it gathers your emotions with it. Include all that you feel into your voice. Release all your suffering and pain through your voice. Free yourself with your shout.

Letting go of the control

Release all your limits

We often limit and control ourselves in our life. Social situations require and except certain roles and behaviors. When we comply with them, we must limit our natural expression of emotions, and control our body.

All these limits stay in our bodies. Slowly we will lose our natural expression and openness. Our being becomes stiff and controlled, and our ability to express our feelings lessens. Social fears limit us, we fear that we might appear as mad or weird to other people, so we will constantly repress our spontaneous reactions.

This method is about letting go all of our limits. It is about letting go our inner control. We can release all our limits, and can relax our continuous self-monitoring for a while. For this you will need the area, where there you will not be disturbed, and where you cannot accidentally break anything.

Begin with breathing. Breathe in and out quickly and irregularly, without any rhythm. Break the rhythm of your breathing, and it will confuse your self-controlling mechanism. Your inner observer will become unbalanced. When you feel weird, begin to move. Let your body do whatever it wants. Do whatever comes into your mind. Forget all limits and controls. Release all the madness in you, all control in you.

Jump around, shout, do weird movements. Express your feelings by all possible ways. Move your body funnily, make strange voices. Do anything you wish, no matter how weird it is. Experience the total freedom of expression. This is a way to the freedom.
